Alleged Harasser Inquired: 'But Suppose I Might Be Madeleine?'
A individual indicted with harassing Kate McCann allegedly deposited her a recorded message which posed: "imagine I am Madeleine?"
Julia Wandelt, 24, who court testimony revealed has consistently claimed she was the missing Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are facing charges indicted with harassing Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February the current year.
On Monday, the court learned communication data and evidence obtained from phones recorded Ms Wandelt repeatedly requesting Madeleine's mother for a DNA test during 2023 and 2024.
Madeleine's vanishing in 2007 - when she was three years old during a trip in Portugal - is considered the most covered child disappearance cases and is still unsolved.
'I Am Not Seeking Money'
Another recorded message, presented in court, recorded Ms Wandelt stating: "I understand I'm fat and plain like Madeleine used to be, but I believe what I believe."
While one recording of Ms Wandelt's one-way conversations with Mrs McCann's recording stated: "Imagine there is a small chance that I am Madeleine? What then? Wouldn't that be significant for you?"
"I am not seeking money, I have a life here in Poland, I only wish to know," the recording stated.
The jury was advised that through electronic messages, mobile messages and communications, Ms Wandelt requested a DNA test, forwarded youth pictures to her phone in a bid to display a resemblance to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and asserted to have "flashbacks" from a early life with the McCanns.
The investigator, a data specialist with law enforcement who collated the data, told the court there "didn't appear to be any responses" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt also reached out to family friends of the McCanns, based on the communication logs.
On that date, the father picked up a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "a wrong number."
During that incident Ms Wandelt deposited a voicemail on Mrs McCann's answerphone stating "I will continue and I intend to demonstrate my point."
The court heard the co-defendant established a connection via internet with Ms Wandelt preceding joining her on a trip to the McCanns' home in that area in last December.
Phone records revealed Mrs Spragg had reached out via WhatsApp to Mrs McCann to express the news outlets had characterized Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she should be taken seriously in the months preceding the visit to that location, that area, in December 2024.
The court was told message exchanges between the two defendants, in last November, considering endeavoring to obtain Mrs McCann's biological evidence from her bins or from cutlery at a restaurant.
"We need to take action," Mrs Spragg told Ms Wandelt.
On the occasion of the visit to their house, the defendant sent a text which stated: "We're currently sitting near the McCanns' house with our lights out similar to detectives. I wanted to do this with someone else I hadn't anticipated I would be involved in this with the McCanns."
The proceedings ongoing.
